Meet our Impact Travel Team

Image

This Journey program has been developed with the support of local leaders in the Bolivian Amazon, Achuar leaders in the Ecuadorian Amazon, and experts in the world of impact travel. Our efforts share the primary goal of educating the world about this important area and the role indigenous families play in protecting it as well as economically empowering the local stewards. A small amount of proceeds goes to our nonprofit to be able to continue coordination and all other income goes directly to the indigenous communities.

Moseten and Tsimané Leaders

Leaders from each of the three main communities we visit on these journeys have been the driving force behind our travel program. Community members from Asunción, Corte and San Luis Grande have all worked closely with our Executive Director and the international impact travel leaders mentioned in the next section to prepare for visitors. The photo above shows them on a trip to the Achuar territory in Ecuador, empowered by our nonprofit, in order for them to train with the Achuar who run their own extremely successful impact travel program. They are motivated by a dream to find autonomy and empowerment through the income and international community these trips create. This will ultimately allow them to remain in and protect their ancestral home in the Rainforest.

Impact Travel Experts

These three men have immense combined knowledge and experience in culturally-affirming, ecologically safe, and personally-transformative eco journeys. Jose Peas is a leader from the Achuar People in Ecuador, a community who has built an incredibly successful Journeys program in partnership with the Pachamama Alliance. Steve has 10 years of experience partnering with the Achuar and Pachamama Alliance in leading these transformative experiences. Juan Fernando is a multilingual, internationally recognized nature guide who has been partnering with both Jose and Steve for many years now.

Their voices and knowledge have been indispensable in the creation of our journeys program. They have worked with our US-based team members on how to help hold these travel experiences as well as directly with Moseten and Tsimane community members on how to safely and effectively host foreign visitors.

Our Children of the Rainforest Team

Our entire team of staff and volunteers from around the world has been learning and training to be able to support the communities of Pilón Lajas in this endeavor wherever we can. Through support with marketing, food sanitation workshops, preparing travelers, and being in Bolivia as guides and translators; we are committed to seeing their dream become a reality.

They are motivated by a dream to find autonomy and empowerment through the income and international community these trips create. This will ultimately allow them to remain in and protect their ancestral home in the Rainforest.

What to Expect

For most guests, the boat ride into the Pilón Lajas Reserve feels like a sacred passage into another way of life. Suddenly community and nature are center stage after being difficult to connect with in modern life. The furthest community we visit is only reachable by 8 hours in that boat, making it the most remote, natural place many modern people have ever experienced.

You will be surrounded by rich biodiversity, ancient culture, fresh food and lovely families. People who are excited to meet you because your willingness to venture to them is part of an effort they believe will empower their communities.

While each journey is a unique experience, on previous visits we have witnessed traditional ceremonies, local museums with ancestral artifacts, capybaras, pink dolphins, traditional bow-and-arrow fishing, soccer matches, tropical birds, monkeys, and so much more.

We have seen strangers sign up for trips together only to leave life-long friends. The bonds you form when technology and bustle are stripped away are incredibly strong. We have seen spiritual transformations as people see what the life we evolved to live for millennia looked like and how much it differs from our modern world.

There is so much more about these experiences to share, but it’s better if you see it for yourself!

Journey Details

We offer these journeys to you for a package price of $4,000 per traveler. We will be with you from the moment you arrive in Bolivia until the moment you leave. The price of your journey includes all food, lodging, and in-country transportation; so once we connect, you can relax and enjoy the adventure.

We will provide packing lists, information about vaccinations and supplies to be safe in this unique ecosystem. We will be available to answer questions by WhatsApp or to hop on calls as you get ready.

Once we reach the Reserve, our team will act as liaisons between our group and your Moseten and Tsimané hosts. Our indigenous guides speak Spanish and there will always be a team member translating to English.

Most journeys are 14 days long with our next opportunity this August, 2026. Click any of the buttons on this page to email our team and schedule a call. Once we meet we can decide if this is the right opportunity for you and start preparing you for the journey of a lifetime.
